We are a Society originally formed in 1975 by a small group of people who wanted to advance the interest of the Heavy Horse. Initially it was confined to the boundaries of Devon, Dorset and Somerset but our current membership now also covers Cornwall, Gloucester, Wiltshire, Hampshire and beyond. The Society is run by a Council of members and events are always held in the South West.
Annually we hold a ‘Heavy Horses at Work Weekend’ in the summer and a ‘Ploughing Match’ in the autumn, both to which the public are welcome and members receive free entry. During the year we also intend to hold other activities. Members receive an informative newsletter three times a year.
Our aim is the provision of a practical service to members owning Heavy Horses and the promotion and protection of these magnificent animals and all aspects of Farming and Conservation including providing pleasure and recreation to all those interested in Heavy Horses.
